Luck : Where preparation and opportunity come together

BAIN CLAIMS 800m RECORD

Rocking his Track352 Racing vest, 16 year old Chris Bain set a new Island u17 800mtr record of 1:56.02 at Footes Lane last Sunday (5th May 2019) aided by the former record holder Tom Druce who set a perfect pace pulling the youngster through a 57 second first lap.

In a competitive year for Guernsey’s cohort of young middle distance athletes Bain also went top of the club rankings on selection deadline day for Island Games team selection. However Bain has other targets in mind – specifically English Schools 1500mtrs steeplechase in July where a podium place is a realistic prospect for the versatile young man.

Around 6 months ago Chris was literally screwed together – a foot bone injury required surgical intervention and pinning whilst the bone healed. His progress in the middle distance group that I coach has been stunning from breaking 2 minutes last summer and now taking a sizable chunk off of his best in just his second track race of the season.
