Photo dump & Race Report – Athletes Alan Rowe with Ian Scholes
This was a super tough race – Half Iron distance with 1600mtrs of climbing and it hosted the Brittany Middle Distance championships so it drew a high quality field of Bretons and a couple of Guernseymen! A 2 lap lake swim with a mass start was a total washing machine at first and a uppercut to my jaw hindered my first lap, but I advanced about 20 places on the second lap to exit in 8th place. Bike was super tough and lost a lot of places – perhaps the full TT rig was not the best choice given the number of roadies with clip ons that passed me. My Trek is not the lightest and I think I paid a price to the lighter road bikes.
My run was solid – 3 laps around the lake, warm, but not too hot and I closed out in 39th place and 2nd in Age Group. Some lessons learned and a great weekend away with my training buddy.
